Tumble dryer question

Can i part dry clothes in a tumble dryer without them shrinking? I ask because none of my clothes are drying well at the moment (too cold to dry clothes but not cold enough to put heating on) and I've had to re-wash some because they smell stale. And I've only got two pairs of trousers at the moment because I'm pg and have only bought two pairs of maternity trousers so far and one of them is always dirty/damp trying to dry!

I've never shrunk anything in the dryer. I wouldn't put wool on the hot setting though.

My motto is; if it shrinks in the tumble dryer I don't want it.

The only things I manage to shrink are M&S school polos, and that's only after repeat washes.

Really! I thought all clothes shrink in the dryer. I only do towels and bedding.

Check the care labels - most things apart from wool/thermals/dry clean only clothes should be fine. If in doubt, use the lower heat setting.
I often dry my clothes indoors and then put them in the dryer just to finish them off.

Um... no. Cotton is OK, nylon/synthetics need a shorter time as they dry quicker.

Brilliant - I see a new era of clothes drying beckoning!

Just do it on a low heat, and never tumble dry jeans (mine always shrink)

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 31/08/2010 21:24

Mine shrink because I eat too much (or is it just the dryer).

I hate having washing all over the place, now I just have things to iron all over the place Hmm

JaynieB · 31/08/2010 21:26

There's less creasing too! Some of my tricksier ironing I often pop in the tumble dryer for a bit to smooth it out.

onepieceoflollipop · 31/08/2010 21:28

You may find that part drying really helps you to cut down on ironing. (if you hang things like dc's t-shirts up immediately on hangers you may get away with it totally)

I never tumble bras, wool or tights. (thin tights). I do part dry thick cotton school tights)

As someone else said, check the labels. A tumble dryer symbol with a dot inside means low heat. :)

I tumble dry everything. The only things I notice shrinking are Boden tops.

IMoveTheStars · 31/08/2010 21:54

belle - I have that problem too!
