ive always used mr muscle type chemicals but am keen to start using more householdy materials kim and aggie style - i know they chuck a concoction of vinegar, bicarb and tea tree oil or something down there, and swear by it. does anyone have any sure-fire ingredients/mixtures they use on the kitchen pipes?

bicarb, then after some time vinegar which gives a nice mini explosion, then boiling water.

Exactly the same as highRiggs

Soda crystals, half a bag or a whole bag depending on how vigorous I feel I need to be. Washed down with scalding water.

may i ask does the vinegar have to be a specific type? i use clear malt vinegar to clean the stainless steel sink - will that do?

I have a bokashi composting bin and the juice that comes out of it is great for keeping drains clean - and it's freeeeeeeeee.

I use boiling water, bleach, then biological washing powder (down overflow too), then more boiling water. It works really well.

Will try bicarb and vinegar though, sounds good!
