New kitchen - ideas

OK, so think I am going to go for a new kitchen, it's a pretty big space as its going to be a kitchen diner.

have decided I will probably go for cream gloss units but can't decide on flooring and worktops, think granite may be hard to keep clean.

if I go for cream gloss think I should go for darker tops and floor, should the floor and work tops match? Don't really want to go for wood flooring so think I will go for tiles!

Any suggestions?

And manufacturers?? Howdens? Sheraton?

Any ideas gratefully received!!!

We have quite a large space as well, because we knocked 2 rooms into one. We have a Howdens kitchen in Haworth white, green slate floors and iroko worktops. I love it! It looks really clean and warm all at the same time, and we used Howdens because our builder has an account with them - it was easy to swap units, replace any chipped ones, and get extra bits and pieces.

I think cream gloss would work well with the colours I used as well.

Iroko is a type of hardwood. Granite (with a fleck so it doesn't show fingermarks, not dead plain) is wonderful for worktops. I love mine which is called Blue Pearl.

that's great, was looking for inspiration for worktops!! My sil has granite and it shows all the marks!

Mine really shows no marks at all and seems to stay magically shiny with minmal effort. I over wipe with diluted washing up liquid.

May I ask you to have matt units (rather than glossy) might be easier to care for (again less marks show) and will contrast nicely with glossy granite worktops. My units are light oak in a modern plainish design and the floor is a slate-look-alike laminiate with a 25 year guarantee. I thought tiles would be too cold in the winter and without slippers. I like to go barefoot. Tiles on the walls (just between the worktops and upper units) are huge matt white (again less finger-marks - I do sound obsessed) and sockets are stainless-steel matt surface again.

I've had this kitchen for a year or so and I love it. I also have two full size ovens (side by side) as I am too short for a double oven (one on top of the other). The hob is not over these. Very useful to have two ovens when guests come or you want to cook stuff at different temperatures.
