Advice to a brown bin newbie

I am having a yucky time with the brown bin [garden and food refuse in our area].
I know it is summer and so likely to be smelly and get maggots.
But even the collection of the food waste is yucky as the brown paper bags I have found to line the caddy get soggy on the bottom and split.
The bags don't fit the caddy exactly so bits go down the side.
Everything in the wheely brown bin turns to mush which sticks to the inside and needs to be washed out after evey collection.
There must be a better way of doing this?

We got compostable plastic bags from our council when we got the little caddys, but you can buy them in supermarkets too. They don't decompose right away, so the brown bin doesn't smell at all. They are 7 litre bags and fit the caddy perfectly.

I will have a look. I might need to ask the neighbours if they use similar.
The council guidlines say you must wrap the food waste in newspaper only but they take the brown paper bagged stuff ok so compostable plastic might be ok.

We jet wash the bin every few weeks to get rid of the smelly stuff.

Are you in Dunoon? I'm not too far from there.

No I am from Edinburgh but live down south now.
Must actually visit Dunoon sometime.
Yes scurryfunge I am washing it out every two weeks after it's cleaned but am hoping to avoid doing that all year.
