bump for you - we have this issue too! Have a plumber coming for something else this week so if I find any easy solutions will let you know.

We have had this and we needed a new valve and ballcock. They get worn out like washers on the tap. We had a plumber do it and I can't remember whether there was a washer in the valve to replace or, as I suspect because I think it was plastic, we had to replace the whole thing.

You can fix this yourself(I say that with confidence because I have)Grin

You may just be able to slide or screw(depending on design) the ball further up or down the stick so the water does not go above the level of the overflow.

Now be warned when I did this the thing completely sheared off, but I'm sure your loo is not as ancient as mine(it is a tasteful sage colour circa 1977Hmm) and this will not happen.

Even so I turned the water off scampered down to focus and bought a cheap part which was easy to fit and now all is well Grin

i tried adjusting the ball but unless i hold it up the drips still come through. it's annoying as i'm sure i've had a plumber 'fix' this a year or so ago.

if diy shop was open would try to replace the whole thing myself it's annoying

have to flush loo every 20 minutes or it floods outside

You could tie the stick part to a wooden spoon (or similar)resting over the top of the cistern to keep the valve closed until you can get to the shops.
It will save you having to keep flushing it anyhow.
