They:

  • put clothes in laundry bin
  • 5 yo lays table

Umm that's it.

My 3 yo helps load the tumble drier and helps when feeding the animals (2 cats and a dog)
I try and get her to put her own toys away and dust the tv but she prefers to do things with me so generally get her to help with things as i do them...depending on her mood!!

maxpower · 20/08/2010 21:24

My 4 yo is responsible for laying the table

  • wipe the table after the meal
-tidying all the toys in the evening
  • hoover their room (the 5y)

Helping load/unload dishwasher

Tidying toys

Sweeping up cornflakes spilt after breakfast

Taking own clothes upstairs to room after I have washed/folded them

Help with loading washing machine and tumble dryer.

Laying the table

I have 2 girls, ages 6 and 3. 6 year old is ASD with severe delays.

wow - i'm impressed. My 2 boys (4 and 5.5) do pretty much nothing. I have to blackmail them to clear up their toys (I tell them I'll hoover them up)
DD is only 20 months so not much help yet although give her a sponge and she'll wipe the table

clippityclop · 24/08/2010 20:10

Mine are 6 and 8. They put their dirty clothes in the washing basket, feed the cat, lay and clear table, blot table spills, water plants, load tumble dryer, tidy up toys before I vacuum, fluff pillows and duvets, put clean clothes away and keep the car de-cluttered. Trying to instilsince 2-3(in a fun, whistle-while you-work, Snow Whiteish, Mary Poppins sort of way) that if they help out, don't walk past stuff and pick up after themselves we can all enjoy a nice safe welcoming home and not waste time looking for things etc. Probably a bit idealistic but basically I'm their mum not the maid!

Ilythia · 24/08/2010 20:43

Mine are 2.10 and 4.6.
DD1 helps set the table and helps clears it, she also unloads their melamine plates from teh dishwasher and puts them away.
She puts her stuff in the washing basket and helps me load/unload machine.
DD2 does cutlery basket from dishwasher (I remove knives first) and helps set table too, she also does washing stuff (loading/unloading) if she can get past DD1.

They both help feed the birds as well (emptying and filling seed pots)

They both help pick up their toys, they don't always get put away properly but at least they are shoved to the side Grin

ds1(6)
lays table
tidies toys
puts clothes in washing basket
pairs socks
takes ds2's, his and dh and mine piles of ironing and outs them on appropriate beds.

i try to persuade ds2(nearly 2) to tidy away. but no avail. will put things int he bin if you ask him

surely this is enough.
what are you expecting OP ? has someone criticised ?

twolittlemonkeys · 24/08/2010 21:08

DS1 (4) puts washing in laundry basket (he usually does this automatically now (yay!) and will tidy up toys if I threaten to bin them. If I ask him he'll sort recycling stuff out on occasion. Sometimes he's really helpful eg running to fetch nappies from upstairs when I'm changing DS2, other times he just blanks me completely.

DS2 (2) just creates a trail of destruction and looks at me like I'm insane when I try to involve him in my tidying efforts.

fairybubbles · 25/08/2010 09:27

DS (3yrs) will help me up load/unload the washing machine.

He will put his own dirty clothes in the laundry basket.

He will put toys back in trays (Trofast) or toybox if asked.

He will take help to load the dishwasher and unload putting his plates and cups into the drawer.

He helps me to hang out the washing by handing me the pegs Smile

After reading this thread i might start encouraging him to put his folded washing into his drawers that would be a good help since we always have piles to put away...

DD is 3 and helps with whatever she is able. So loading the washing machine, pegging out washing, putting washing up away, dusting, tidying her toys. She is generally responsible for her things so she clears her toys away, puts her own laundry away, makes her bed, brings her laundry down to the washing machine etc. She actually enjoys it. Especially sweeping and dusting. I am not expecting this to last.
