Slow cooker question

AngelDog · 19/08/2010 13:09

I'm thinking about getting one but I'd prefer one that is big enough to make more than one dinner's worth of food for an average sized family.

How many people would a 6.5 litre cooker make a meal for?

I need something relatively inexpensive.

Any recommendations?

TIA

They do a fabulous 6.5 litre one in Argos for less than £20 - i have one and there's me, the manshape and three children, we always have plenty with enough to freeze some too.

And it's big enough to do a whole large chicken in too which is fab!

Thanks, deemented - even cheaper than the ones on Ebay! Grin Is it this one that you have?

Now I just need to persuade DH that more kitchen clutter is a good idea...

Thnaks, ruby. There are only 3 of us at the moment, but I have a view to the long term. While I enjoy cooking, I don't like it enough to want to do it every day - industrial quantities and freezing is what I do best!

Yes, thats the one - it's great!

I also have a smaller 3ltr one that i do porridges/rice puds in.

Don't tempt me - I already have 2 pressure cookers so daredn't get over-enthusiastic about slow cookers too! Grin

I have to say, i absolutely love my slowcookers - i use one of them at least three times a week. I'm a lazy cook and the idea of just bunging everything in and leaving it is very appealing!

AngelDog · 19/08/2010 21:56

Do you brown things off in a pan first? That's the bit that always sounds like a bit of a hassle to me.

Some things i do - i have to brown sausages - i tried to get away without doing so one day and although edible it reminded me so much of an ugly flacid penis that it put me right off me dinner! Grin

I also brown mince, when i'm making chilli or bolognaise, and i sometimes brown beef - just for the extra flavour if nowt else.

venusonarockbun · 19/08/2010 22:17

Its not necessary to brown off first. It just gives you an extra pan to wash out. Just bung it all in.

AngelDog · 20/08/2010 20:14

venus, you sound like my sort of cook...

deemented, Grin
