Sweat - can I rescue these tops/prevent this happening again?

I am a sweaty betty, but I shower every day, use antipersperant-deodorant, and only wear a top once before laundering it.

My washing machine is a good one, I use the right amount of detergent, abd my clothes come out clean.

Nonetheless, when my tops warm up (eg through wearing or ironing) the underarms on some of them smell horribly of stale sweat, even though they look and smell clean while they are cool.

Is there anything I can do about this? It's embarassing! And it's also annoying to havd to discard tops after one season, when they still look lovely.

Perhaps, up the deodorant to something stronger (Triple Dry) but probably you need to wash on a higher temperature-6oC for cottons, if not every wash then every second or third wash.

do you use bio powder?

My DH's work shirts had this problem for a while. Started using bio powder and washing at 60 on a full length wash and he started using mitchum deodorant. Seems to have solved the problem.

The other thing you can do is pre wash or soak in very hot water and spot clean in white vinegar (you can even neutralise sweaty slippers or trainers by dipping a toothbrush in WV and brushing the inside.

You have to leave them to dry in fresh air but it does work.

Thanks for your suggestions.

I linedry whenever possible. I don't use bio because it irritates my skin. I wonder whether a bio prewash followed by a non-bio main cycle would work.

I can't use a very hot was on most of my shirts, and my deo is effective. It's not me that is smelly, it's my shirts!

I shall try the vinegar on my already-ruined shirts.

If you can't use bio powder you could try soaking them in biotex or nappisan before washing in your normal nonbio. I used to have to do this for my son's gross pants(thank god he's grown out of thatGrin)
