going to get ds a duvet - cotbed or single size, and where from

ds is 16mo and very capable of crawling out from under sheets etc - he finds it an excellent game so i'm sure he'll be fine with a duvet.
he always enjoys sleeping under ours in our bed so in preparation for the winter i want to get him a duvet for his cotbed.

so do buy a cotbed or a single size?
where from?
where is nice for sheets/ covers etc but not expensive?

cheers all! :)

We hot DS a duvet and pillow at 12m from IKEA. We went for the top of the range duvet which has been perfect (and also not too expensive so could get a second one for accidents). They also have a lovely range of sheets that are also relatively inexpensive.

we get them from argos or the supermarket. you will find it easier to get single duvet covers so a single sized duvet may be best for you.

I remember starting out with cotbed size duvets and they were ok, but tbh it would have been alright and probably better to go straight to a single.

The cotbed sized ones aren't really big enough and there is always more choice in the normal single size for covers.

I recommend La Redoute for bedding. They do a really big range of sizes which is good if you have funny sized cabin beds and are a good price.

They are also very good for waterproof matress protectors.

I'd go for a junior bed size. Next do quite a good range as does John Lewis. They're a bigger than cotbed but no so big that they hang onto the floor.

Argos do a 4.5 tog single duvet for £4.49

mrsflux · 14/08/2010 20:43

fab! Grin

i was thinking single might be the best size as it'd get more use and my wriggly boy could probably stuff a smaller one into the corner of the bed quite easily.

do you get lower togs for little people? what i mean is would he need a 4.5 for summer but a 9.5 in winter?

I got DD a single size for her cotbed thinking it will be a bit bigger so will stay on and she still kicks it off haha. I got hers from argos about 18mths ago still good as new :)

a maximum of 4.5tog is recommended for cot beds whereas for single beds the maximum is 10.5tog - something to do with the surface area of the bed and the amount of space needed to keep warm. I would get 4.5tog and see how you get on. My 2 are in single beds and are on 4.5 tog duvets as it is a bit warmer just now.

When my lot were younger i bought cheap duvets from supermarkets so if there were any accidents or vomiting they could be washed or thrown out.
Always had a spare one just in case too.
Single bed size are also easy to get cheap covers for

4madboys · 18/08/2010 19:33

yeah i got cheap ones from supermarket or argos for when they are little and puke/wet the bed etc.

just a standard single duvet and argos does some ok cheap duvet covers as well :)
