Doing an online Asda shop - looking for white vinegar that is recommended for lots of cleaning purposes. They only have white balsamic vinegar with grape must Confused in it - is that the right stuff?

Wow, that would be the poshest natural cleaner ever. Try looking for distilled (malt) vinegar.

starrychime · 08/08/2010 20:19

Oh, I've got some of that already! Is that the same stuff then?

You are after white distilled malt vinegar - you can get big 5l flagons of the stuff at wholesalers or catering suppliers.

Otherwise Waitrose sells 1 litre bottles for about 60p I think.

Yeah crazy or it's sometimes called pickling vinegar. Unless yr VERY rich starry.. it seems a bit of a waste to be buying balsamic for cleaning Grin.

I could have the poshest sink in town Grin OK, know what I'm looking for now, thanks. I was briefly tempted by a 500ml white vinegar spray for a fiver on Amazon tho, but this does seem a bit excessive now.

Mmm pickled onions Grin.

£5 for a spray bottle? Blimey! I use an old Method all-purpose cleaner bottle - fill half with vinegar and top up with water. If used with a microfibre cloth you'll have the shiniest taps and surfaces you've ever seen.

MooMinCow · 11/08/2010 18:34

you can buy it in a spray bottle from Wilkinsons for under a pound I think

Apparently brown malt vinegar ( which is easier to find and generally cheaper) is fine to use as well. Read that on Money Saving Expert site so must be true Grin

Crazycatlady · 12/08/2010 12:54

Tis true Ellie, although when I tried it, my house smelt a bit too much like fish and chips for my liking! The white vinegar has a cleaner smell.

Yes crazy and my DH hates the smell of white vinegar so what he'd say about the malt stuff in our loo cistern I don't know!!Grin
