She sleeps on my bed most night, and the bedroom door is always open, she is not old or ill as far as I know, it has gone right through my memory foam topper and through to the mattress, any ideas what is best to get rid of the smell? Bicarb?

I find vinegar/wate 50/50 good for such things though off course it means making your bed wetter

differentID · 08/08/2010 10:12

it could be stress. have there been any problems with other cars recently?

FloraFinching · 08/08/2010 10:13

Firstly, blot as much of the wee up as you can with some old towels
we use a biological washing powder solution to clean, and then finish with Pets at Home antimicrobial stain and odour remover, which you leave on after you've finished cleaning.

We've tried vinegar/bicarb/citrus oils, but the above combination works the best.

my sympathies though. Ours has been spraying everywhere recently (there's a thread about it) and I'm just about ready to skin the little bastard darling.

different, I dont think so, when she goes out she doesnt go much further than just outside the garden gate, or next doors garden where she seems to be friendly with a dog there.Grin

You might have a marauder- I know that locally there are 2 who like to try intimidating my cats through the window. and beat up the cats opposite and sneak in next door and steal their cat's food. Not so much now as the have a big dog!

If she does it again, how about a litter tray for night time?

LibertyGibbet · 08/08/2010 10:19

Same happened here recently. Was a one off afaik. Not done it since. All bedding on a hot wash. Mop up as much urine as possible from the mattress, then biological detergent solution and then the Pets At Home stuff if you have it or bicarb. Leave to dry. Preferably outside. Our mattress was fine.

I have had other cats come in before through the night, my cat has always woke me hissing at them and scaring them out, so maybe there is a neighbourhood bully who came mooching last night.

She may have a UTI. My cat suffers from them, but because she is an indoor cat I'm able to tell from her dirt box. But when it gets very bad she will try to wee anywhere and I find her squatting down all over the show. Maybe worth keeping an eye on. As for the smell, not the same, but last time ds was sick over his mattress i washed it down with a white vinegar and soda crystal solution. It smelt rank when applied, but then I put mattress outside in sun for 2 days and the smell was completely gone. Hope this helps Smile

I would suggest a quick trip to the vet. Just to check. Ours started doing this and finally after months of getting cross and banning her from the bedrooms, we found out she has a growth that was pressing on her bladder and was now inoperable. Felt so guilty Sad. Might be worth a check-up?

GothAnneGeddes · 09/08/2010 16:09

My parent's cat was spraying everywhere - even in my Mum's porridge.

She went to the vets who diagnosed depression (yes, really) as the cat had also been a bit withdrawn, not grooming etc. She prescribed this pheremone plug in and the cat is much happier and has stopped spraying.

nannyl · 10/08/2010 11:28

my friends cat started doing the same...

was also diagnosed with stress / depression and was was treated with 1 drop of bach rescue remedy into her water bowl daily.

it made things better, though not perfect...
