Advice needed on my new bed please

I'm not sure this is the right place for this but I am hoping that you good natured domestic goddesses will help me out.

Long story but I bought an IKEA Sultan sprung mattress (140x200cm or a European double). Couldn't get the bed to go with it and now can't get back to IKEA or afford delivery on top of the price. I can get a very similar bed from Argos for £50 less and £30 less delivery but am not sure it'll fit the mattress. Has anyone teamed the Alderley bedframe from Argos with an IKEA mattress? Or do you think it is worth the risk?

Thanks for any help.

No don't risk it! Ikea mattresses are not the same as a standard double, check the measurements.

Tippychoocks · 07/08/2010 13:37

Thanks Lool, I did see that but I've seen people sell them second-hand together and I wondered if it was a case of just a few cm that would squish up a bit. I was hoping someone else had bought this combination and could tell me if it would squish up.

Or maybe it won't squish and that's why they were selling them on gumtree!

normal double here would be 135x190, so if it is a closed frame (sorry, link doesn*t work) I would not risk it.

but if the matress only lies on top of it with an open foot end, it should be all right to have a little overhang matress wise.

Tippychoocks · 07/08/2010 18:32

Thank you. I think I will risk it. If you see a thread on here asking "Is it OK to saw the end off a sprung mattres?" you'll know it didn't work Grin

10cm in length is a lot of squishing....perhaps get a Kingsize frame they are 200cm long - not sure on width though

Tippychoocks · 07/08/2010 21:09

I did think of that Cargirl but it's already in my old kingsize frame and there's loads of room bottom and sides. I measured the mattress and it's 196cm not 200 as it said on the packaging and the headboard allows some overlap that won't be seen. I think I will risk it.

Though, I seem to have picked the only moment since time began that there is no argos sale so I might wait a little longer...

Personally for only (I am aware it is still a lot of money) £80 I really wouldnt risk it or bother. Not for a bed that you will spend 8 hours a night in (if you are lucky) for maye 4 years? That only £20 a year and like (crap maths here but...) less than 50p a week?

Maybe just wait till you CAN afford it or get back or until the right frame comes up on gumtree
JMO tho

Dammit dream, that's a good point. I am naturally miserly at the moment - newly single parent and clinging onto every penny.

Oh I can't decide. I imagine I will do nothing and them whoever advertises a sale will get the business Grin

Keep an eye out on ebay too for a 2nd hand Ikea frame.
