How do you get smell out of 60's wardrobes?

They still have some things from the 1960's in them by the looks of things!

We're moving into a new house and there are several built in wardrobes that smell musty. They are some kind of cheap wood. Can I get the smell out?

wipe them down with a mixture of washing up liquid and vinegar in water. keep the doors open until they are really dry. don*t worry about the vinegar smell, it will go away as it dries.

I love the smell in old wardrobes, why would you want to get rid of it?? (although I admit it's not that nice on your clothes, but I used to find if you leave the door open a crack and hang cupboard fresheners in them it's not so bad. But if you really have to get rid of the smell, I second washing up liquid and vinegar.

I'll give that a go. I don't really want to smell like an old man edward's other! If it was confined to books that came out that would be fine.

Bicarbonate of soda sprinkled liberally plus a tray of barbecue charcoal left in for a few days. Both absorb smells.

Try putting some cedar or lavender essential oil in a plant spray and give the wardrobe a good drenching.

Agree with wiping over with white vinegar and Stardrops diluted with water and then leave an unwrapped bar of soap in there and close the door. Next time you open the wardrobe it will smell of soap. Now leave the soap inside and the door open a crack with the window open every time you go in the room and the smell will soon disappear.

chop a potato in half and leave it in there overnight.
