Cotton Sheets

What sort of cotton are the heavy cotton almost slubby sheets made of please? It's sort of rough, a bit slubby and really crunchy when line dried and I really need some cos I hate soft smooth sheets.

Maybe I should just buy myself a monks habit to sleep in

Poss. a mix of cotton and linen? I don't know if you can get pure linen sheets; you can get organic cotton sheets but they are quite soft! of course if you don't iron them they'd be less smooth?

iron? what is this iron thing you speak of? thanks ppeat I will investigate cotton and linen

)))ironing(((

Are you thinking about cotton flannelette?

Linen sheets are very smooth.

nannyl · 27/07/2010 09:54

do you mean brushed cotton?

SparkyToo · 29/07/2010 17:00

Do you mean textured bedding, like waffle or seersucker, or just standard style fabric that's just a bit crunchier, like Egyptian cotton with a low thread count, ie thicker threads??

Mind you, I have these Egyptian cotton sheets and I certainly wouldn't describe them as slubby. They're actually relatively lightweight. I've had a seersucker duvet cover in the past and I just found it a bit heavy as I do prefer soft and lightweight fabrics, especially in summer.

ppeatfruit · 29/07/2010 17:45

Well SOME people iron their sheets!! I must say the newest sheets i've got are very soft without ironing. Yes sparky maybe the thicker thread ones would be best.

IMoveTheStars · 29/07/2010 17:47

what does slubby mean?

Bonsoir · 29/07/2010 17:48

Linen

ChippingIn · 29/07/2010 17:50

I want 'hotel' sheets, you know those lovely heavy ones... do you think it's the same thing??

nagoo · 29/07/2010 17:50

yes, I was having trouble with the term slubby too?

Bonsoir · 29/07/2010 17:50

I have pure linen sheets from Caravane. Really lovely to sleep in, and they are much better not ironed!

IMoveTheStars · 29/07/2010 17:55

Bonsoir - was that an answer to me, the OP, or both?

Bonsoir · 29/07/2010 17:56

The OP!

ChippingIn · 29/07/2010 17:59

Oooooohhhh no, couldn't be done with those - they look like they need a good iron!!

Bonsoir · 29/07/2010 18:05

They feel fabulous and they look great, too. But that depends on the rest of your décor - linen sheets won't go with super modern furniture.

2kids2dogsandahorse · 30/07/2010 15:05

Oh maybe it is linen I'm after - by slubby I meant sort of slightly lumpy bits in it (sounds nuts) maybe I'm thinking of the coarse Egyptian cotton then.

I'm going to go to John Lewis and fondle the sheets now

I do prefer ironed sheets! Doesn't always happen. Thinking about it I think you're thinking of linen. Linen deinitely has slubs in it, ie raised bumpy bits where the thread looks all squashed up on itself.

Try Volga.

Slubby stuff looks like this but may be less prominent and less regular

I've got cotton/linen mix sheets and they are slubby. Fab to sleep in esp when line dried
