I would try a good soak in biotex followed by another hot wash. Then hang it out in the sunshine for a few days.

To be honest though you may have 'fixed' the stain with your initial hot wash. For future reference the best thing for blood stains is a cold soak in salty water, then a 40 degree wash in bio powder.

I do hope you manage to get it out.

I like Ace it never lets me down and I like watching it fizz and get to work (sad alert)

iamfabregasted · 24/07/2010 14:07

Awh 2kids2dogsandahorse you beat me to it. I love Ace.

2kids2dogsandahorse · 24/07/2010 14:08

What happened to the really giant bottles of it? I can't find it anywhere

Lancelottie · 24/07/2010 14:10

Something that helped for me (after son's dramatic nosebleed over handmade patchwork quilt!) was rubbing it gently with plain soapflakes in cold water.

The quilt, that is. Not son's nose.

Not sure if this would work after the hot wash, though.

Bio powder and dry in full sun on the line?

VoidofDiscovery · 26/07/2010 22:48

From watching too much CSI, the saliva of the person responsible on the stain is supposed to help. Get him to spit on it, the enzymes are supposed to help remove the blood. It may only work on fresh stains, I can't quite remember.

Failing that the Vanish spray with Oxy stuff is good.

latherrinserepeat · 28/07/2010 14:47

Wow - just saw the new responses - thanks! Think will stop short of getting him to spit on it (bleurgh - about as much as the stains!) and had already tried Vanish. But have a bottle of Ace tucked in the back of the cupboard so will give that a whirl . . . .

Thanks again

Void - yes, it will only work if you do it straight away.

Lather - when you have done it, just peg it on the line in the sun, even if you can still see the marks, it's amazing what vanishes in the sunlight.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 29/07/2010 18:40

We use a bit of biological liquid in the pre-wash, then non-bio and a scoop of Vanish in the main wash.
I am used to this problem, we bought some horrendously expensive but gorgeous bedding from John Lewis last autumn and DH has a habit of banging his head on things so he's often bleeding from one cut or another. I have threatened to make him wear a swimming hat to bed.

What colour is it? If it's white (which ours is) then you can always blob a bit of Milton on, that will sort it out.

TheMoonOnAStick · 29/07/2010 18:42

If it is white linen I would dab on a bit of bleach.

Dilute it a bit at first, make it stronger if necessary and keep watching it as it will start to work quite quickly the stronger it is. Be ready to wash it all off asap or preferably give it another wash (hot) in the machine to make sure all bleach it removed. Only use bleach if the linen is white though of course.

I've only ever found bleach to be effective on stubborn blood stains.

MadameDefarge · 29/07/2010 18:44

Milk is also rather good...soaking it for a bit then the other measures...

latherrinserepeat · 30/07/2010 10:45

Well I have given it two goes of soaking in the ace followed by bio wash in the machine and is out on the line for the second day. Good news is it is much much improved - can still see the stain a little but is very faint and yellowed (yes the linen is white pima cotton).

So thanks for all the suggestions as this is much improved!

Rubbing neat green Fairy Liquid in before washing works quite well too. I'm paranoid I then whack a good dose of Ace on, leave for half an hour or so and then wash on full blast

MrsSchadenfreude · 30/07/2010 21:41

Hydrogen peroxide solution (small bottle from chemist), squirt it on and it will all fizz off. Then wash. Have got blood out of mattress with this.

onepieceoflollipop · 30/07/2010 21:44

Wash it a couple more times then if it looks like it is fading. (and hang in direct sun) Stains always look "worse" when the item is still wet as you probably know.

Always use a decent bio powder such as ariel or persil.

never ever tumble dry or iron over a stained item. If you absolutely must iron the whole item then avoid the stain.

Doodleydoo · 02/08/2010 15:19

Also try a soak in Nappisan? Cheap and cheerful - has worked for lots of things for us. Hope it works
