This is one of the low points about summer, isn't it?

I'm guessing you've got or had a nest somewhere nearby. (I know someone who was troubled with dozens of flies in their kitchen, and it turned out they had a rotting potato slip down the back of one of the kitchen units ) If you have a food waste rubbish source, that could have had fly eggs laid in it.

If you don't want to use chemicals around the house, you could always try fly papers - they work quite well and they're usually fastened up high out of reach of pets/children. They do look rather grim though, but if you'd rather get rid without pesticides...

Sticky fly papers sorted ours. Don't like using them but they definitely worked. Had about 20 on the kitchen one - yuk!

A brill way is to put a trap outside for them ; put something old like beer and or jam or worse smelly flower water and they don't bother coming in and stick to jam or drown and die!

The only time we had this, it turned out there was a dead mouse behind a cupboard that had "hatched"! It could be rubbish but most likely only if you have unbagged "food only" bins, not ordinary bagged up kitchen waste.

Good old fashioned fly swatters from a plastic-box shop are fun and effective. Get the kids in on the job.
