Should I move! Need to decide urgently

I’m currently living in a two bed council flat. Rent is £450 per month. I live on the door step of 3 major stations and the bus stops/shops etc. Size is reasonable.

Would you swap with someone living in a ground floor Victorian property. Rooms and kitchen are half the size of current property, rent is £1200 per month. However, the livingroom is gorgeous! And it has quite a large garden. It’s also 2 bus stops away from the stations mentioned above.

So your rent is going to triple?

Heriam · 05/02/2026 14:04

Yes but the new place is a rare opportunity

Not a chance I would triple my rent.

dicentra365 · 05/02/2026 14:07

No way - that is SO much more money.

ZebedeeStan · 05/02/2026 14:08

Nooooooo

mondaytosunday · 05/02/2026 14:10

So you’re going to get less space and further from the station for triple the money for what, a nice living room and garden? Think very carefully about that - and why is it a ‘rare opportunity’?

Yes but the new place is a rare opportunity

Says the letting agent

Soonenough · 05/02/2026 14:10

A living room is not worth that much extra rent .

sesquipedalian · 05/02/2026 14:10

No way would I trade a low rent house for one that not only costs three times as much but also has a tiny kitchen!

PogoBob · 05/02/2026 14:11

Tripling your rent is a lot just to gain a more attractive living room and a garden and doesn't feel like the most sensible step - how much benefit will the garden and living room really add to your life?

Heriam · 05/02/2026 17:33

Thanks all! This REALLY helped. Confirmed that this is really a ridiculous idea ☹️

Could you easily afford an extra £800 a month? If so start saving for a mortgage?
