How often do you do homework?

Particularly for a 8/9 year old (p4). I try 30 mins a night which is a juggle working full time and doing clubs every other night.

Feel I’m drowning. He’s really struggling with phonemes - despite doing same group for almost a year he’s still getting them wrong. School didn’t offer much help other to keep at it.

don’t know how I’ll cope when I have two to do homework with next year

Yr 3 child in England- reading a couple of times a week, maths hmk takes about 10/15 minutes at the weekend but I potter around and only offer help if needed and spellings about 10 mins at the weekend and a couple of minutes over dinner time every night.

I had to sit with dd for homework every day at that age. Much older now and I still do at least 2 hours a week with her, sometimes more. She prefers I serve as her maths tutor instead of hiring someone.

Can you fit it into the day elsewhere. DD used to do hers in the car on a tray waiting for swimming to start so it was 'dead' time anyway. We found the change of scenery useful too. Reading out loud as you are driving to a activity etc.

I completely understand what you’re going through. I have an 8-year-old as well, and balancing homework, full-time work, and after-school activities can feel overwhelming. We faced similar struggles, especially with phonemes, and it felt like no matter how much time we spent, progress was slow.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, I highly recommend looking into tutoring. It’s been a great investment in my child’s education and our overall peace of mind.
Hope this helps!
