Is it just me or?!

At the risk of being in the minority with this opinion - (and that's fine!) Is there anyone else who isn't all for homework being set?!

I have 3 DS'.
One in Y4 (9) and one in Y2 (7).. the youngest is in preschool.
Y4 HW - Written maths, English, reading min 4x a week, 10 spellings a week, online maths. Minus the spellings and reading that get a week of learning.. the rest of the homework set is given out on a Friday and expected in on the following upcoming Monday.
Y2 HW - Written HW once a week in log book (can be set on all different subjects!), reading min 3x a week, online maths - (10 sets/module type things of 10-15 different questions in different areas), and 10 spellings a week. DS gets a week for HW set to be completed.

Now I get to some this may not be a lot. But there are some schools that don't get half as much as this or any at all.
Along with this and having a toddler, myself and DH working, including hours after school.. it's just chaotic and too much.
I've always believed they're at school 6 hours a day and shouldn't have to spend any longer outside of the learning environment of a classroom to be sat doing more. And certainly don't agree with this at the weekends as it's the only times we get as a family to chill or do what we want to do.
I just wondered what people's opinions were on it, it's starting to stress me out lol.. and what could the teacher actually do if I turned around and said my child won't be completing any homework as of now on.. but will carry on reading and spellings weekly?!

Just do what you can.

Two years ago I did the homework with my children who where in reception and year 1 at the time. I asked a teacher I knew whether it was a lot of homework and they said yes that's a lot!!

Last year I didn't do one piece of homework with my children who were in year 1 and year 2. Teacher's never said anything at all! Children are both working at greater depth for reading and are greater depth for maths. Writing is expected.

I just did my own things with them and followed got them to do some exercise books I got which followed the curriculum to see where they needed more work and helped them with their weaknesses.

Don't stress about the homework the school set. If school aren't strict and don't say anything if you don't do it then sod it. Hahaha.

Also I understand how hectic life is with three children, I have three children myself 8, 6 and 2!

There is only so much you can do in a day so just do what you can.

Both my children (one has autism) were at different primary schools and neither have done any homework since 2019, after school and my work they have their clubs, they swim once a week and the other days they have friends over or do as they please.
It’s been brought up at parents evening and they’re happy with spellings and reading only.
My oldest is in secondary now but does homework during school hours with his TA.

If you don't want to do it all then reading is the most important. Everything else will fall into place.

Last year I never did any spelling practice with the children either. If they are good readers they will be good speller to and writers eventually ahahah.

Maths, just get them to do a bit of maths every week on each topic. Nothing too strenuous and you can see what they need help with and have more focused help at home rather than anything and everything
