In the sentence "the leaves hang trembling", is the word "trembling" functioning as an adverb because it describes the manner in which the leaves are hanging?

Obviously it would usually be a verb. Can a verb be an adverb in some contexts? Thanks.

Also, in the phrase "shimmering, shining, stunning", describing a ship. Would we say these are both adjectives AND verbs?

And (sorry) in the phrase "A towering, icy mountain", is the word "towering" an adjective, but not a verb in this context?

It describes what the verb (hang) is doing, so (irrc) it's an adverb.

Eg The boy walked fast
Walked is the verb and fast is the adverb as it's describing the verb

Towering, in that context, I would think is an adjective relating to the height, rather than it actually 'doing' anything. But I could be wrong!

When verbs act as adjectives, they’re known as participles.
