Representing a repeating number - decimals

Hello,

Just wanted to check if this would be the correct approach.

Daughter's math homework is division, representing remainders as decimals. She has been taught that if a single digit repeats, to put a dot over the number (ie. instead of writing 10.6666, she'd wright 10.6 with a dot over the 6. So far, so good.

I learned that when a series of numbers repeats, to use a line over the numbers. They haven't been taught what to do in this instance, but some of the equations are coming up with a series of numbers (ie. 10.149149149....)

Would it be correct to use the line, based on the current curriculum? I don't want to teach her the wrong method.

Thanks.

Just asked ds y9 he says put a dot above the first and last number of the recurring group.

Fantastic, thank you. I'll advise her to do that.

No probs. I googled it too as I don’t want to be responsible for giving a wrong answer and hopefully you’ll get a secondary maths teacher to confirm, but it also said the US way is a line and the UK way is dots.

I googled as well and found both methods, but not the specifics for what is used in each country. You have very good googling skills ;-). I was born and raised in Canada, so I'm very aware that I might have different methods to what is taught here in the UK. Thanks again.
