Dd2 is struggling a bit with A levels . She's doing eng lit/Lang and now has to do some course work selecting a book or poem and comparing themes and how the subject is presented with a non fiction piece . The example the teacher has given is how autism is presented in 'the curious incident of the dog in the nighttime' so presumably you could find a new spare article or transcript from tv/radio and comment/ compare etc
Dd2 would really like to do under milk wood as her fiction piece and was thinking of themes of dreams/ death as she has always loved the poem but she can't quite get to the next stage of what to compare with and how.
I know she should get on with it on her own but she's having s shit time for various reasons and I'm worried she's on the point of just giving up. I usually do leave her to it but this time I'd like to try and get her going as she is properly 'stuck' but I haven't really got a clue either!
Is there anyone who can suggest any thing or should she just go back to the drawing board and try and find an easier piece?

.

Compare with something by Freud on dreams?

If she’s looking for modern non-fiction, the TED talk transcripts well written. However, I would imagine that if she were to go and speak with her teacher about her coursework they would be happy to help. From a teacher’s perspective, it is much more straightforward to help shape a meaningful piece at the beginning than it is to try and corral well-intentioned but inappropriate work that a student has put effort into once it is half done. She might feel slightly awkward, but any decent teacher will be happy to give up a bit of time if it is going to help her. Good luck to her!

Thanks both so much for replying. I hadn't thought of a ted talk - what a great idea and will suggest Freud . It's just the sort of ideas she needs to get going with it.
