The cave; deep and dark

It's not a sentence.

If you want to continue it with something, you could use commas to set off 'deep and dark' - e.g., "The cave, deep and dark, intrigued the children so much that they had to explore it." Or "The cave, deep and dark, was at the very end of the tunnel."

Or it could come at the end of the sentence: "I tiptoed into the cave, deep and dark." I don't think that sounds as good, because it's a slightly unusual word order, but it is possible, and it would need a comma after cave.

That's a phrase

The cave, deep and dark, AND SAY SOMETHING ELSE!

Thank you. I will go with the semi colon.

There is no option to add anything else - the homework was to punctuate a list of about 10 sentences. The cave one was the only one we couldn’t do.

If you use a semi colon both sides of the sentence is usually a sentence. The example given isn't a sentence at all.

Is it meant to be a trick question? Definitely not a sentence so, if the school are implying it is, then I'd be asking why they think this.
