Challenging homework...

Is it unreasonable of me to expect that if ds's teacher is going to go to the trouble of sending him home with homework that it actually provide him with some level of challenge?!

Nope... a tthis stage they will be assessing what he knows. Make sure he completes it ridiculously well and put a note on saying it took 10 minutes etc. Go in and chat if needed.

However, in a few eeks, yes, it should stretch and challenge your child.

What year is he in?

Only Y1. I hate the fact they give homework tbh but I think if they do it should be worthwhile. He had to fill in missing numbers from a 'counting in 1s' sequence which he could have done in F1 let alone Y1!

I'd rather he had no homework than pointless homework iygwim.

Thing is, there will be several in his class who cant.... and they have no way of finding out who can untill its done and sometimes, if its going to get a big range of times kids can do it in its good done at home.

Also, its only a few weeks in.....

Totally agree with homeowkr, praying that dd aged 6 is about to get tonnes.... We chose this school becuase we liked its [not much[ homeowkr policy. :)

In years 1 and 2 children were given slightly different homework according to their ability at ds's school.

From year 3 they were in sets for Maths so would be given different homework anyway. The other homework tasks were usually related to topic work.
