How much whip cracking do you expect to do to get 14 year old to do his homework?

Am trying to take a bit of a back seat and make him responsible for his homework. Do you get involved and check work is being done or do you leave your dc to manage themselves. I'm not talking about helping him do it, just making sure he does it.

Not at that age no
They need to learn consequences of their actions once at secondary school
Have you been checking since yr 7???

I remind her to do it. Give her time and space to do it. Then it's up to her - if it's not done then she has to accept the consequences.

I check regularly what my dd has and that its at a good standard but that's it. I dont push it or help unless asked. Its her homework. If its not completed I don't sign her planner. She knows the school rules.

God, I don't know about 14 year olds but I'm having a shite time trying to get 11 year old DS to do his homework. 3 weeks into the new school year and I'm sick of it. Doesn't help that he's had to design a poster every week so far. Sundays are a bloody misery here.

None.
I ensure they have the time and space, and I show an interest / ask them what they've got, but I don't make them show it to me.
