Politics for kids

Marjoriew · 06/04/2010 09:06

Can't seem to find any links for kids interested in politics, like Who Governs Us?
Grandson asks lots of questions about the Prime Minister, the war in Iraq and Afghanistan [my son is an officer in the army].
I don't want to make it too complicated for him but just need a starting point to get us going.

WoodlandSchool

you don't say what age your gs is. This is aimed at primary school dc. Is this any good? I haven't checked but I don't think they mention current war involvement

Grandson is 10 - 11 in June but a 'young' ten, if you see what I mean.
He does ask questions about the war because his uncle has been to Iraq and Afghanistan, so we're quite close to it.

We're going on a visit to Hughenden Manor[ Disraeli's home] as it's just 10 mins on the bus for us.

Thanks for all the links, folks.

hmm not sure where to find out about the war in Iraq and Afghanistan aimed at dc.

He could do some geography though, learning about those countries, their history, the general area for a start though.

Let us know how you find the "field trip"!

We've got a system with Geography. It's foolproof

We have a big poster with the flags of the world on it. We put it on the floor and grandson shuts his eyes and points to a flag. Then we study that country, people, customs, recipes etc.

What about this book?

Vote

We have a copy of it, covers voting, election, parliament etc through history - its an eyewitness book so follows the same format as all the other eyewitness books

I thought we would read it in the run up to the election.

Oooh, great. I love the Eyewitness series of books - we've got quite a few.
I haven't seen that one before.
Thanks very much.
