Hi lifesucks

WRT your daughter, most home educators start with 'deschooling' - treat it as a long summer holiday. Just follow her interests.

Also, maybe try and find out where your local group is (there's a thread on here that should be near the top as someone bumped it the other day, that explains how to find your local group) and go along to some meetings/gatherings.

And read lots of threads on here - maybe some books too? How Children Learn At Home by Alan Thomas and Harriet Pattison is very helpful. As is Free Range Education by Terri Dowty.

WRT the law, you don't need to let the local authority know, but you do need to formally deregister her from the school, or she'll be truanting. Have you written to them to ask them to take her off their school register?

Don?t stress yourself out thinking you need to ?do school?. Quite a few of us have gone down that road and found it to be quite difficult. One on one is not the same as one on 30. You can accomplish loads in short amounts of time spread through out a day but I?m not even sure you?re at that point. I would suggest you relax, allow your daughter to explore her interests and don?t listen to people who tell you that you are making a mistake.

Hi I do recommend joining the on-line groups - there's usually information about trips and RL groups. There's so much going on in London, lots of education sessions/trips to art galleries and museums etc as well as regular meet-ups. There's a group that meets regularly in Putney with a few other girls around your daughter's age, also one in Sutton area, if you can get down there. The swlondonsurreyboredershomeed group at yahoo groups is good as is slhe at yahoo groups and the CLHE at google groups.
