We are only a few months away from a general election so does anyone know what the Tory line is on HE??? Have been on ther website to have a look at the draft manifesto but they have no section for edcuation as yet!

Would happily vote tory if they would refute the madman report (sorry, badman report) and I never would have believed I would ever say that!

What about the Lib dems?

Lib dems are hopeless. they don't see the problem with registration and monitoring. out of frying pan into fire

Conservatives are better - I think we'll end up with compulsory notification but not monitoring with them, and we have supporters like Lord Lucas and Graham Stuart who actually get it

greens = statist, wouldn't support us

bnp = bunch of statist nutters although they are anti-badman

ukip very supportive.

I think it's a question of voting tactically, whoever isn't lab or lib dem who has a prayer of toppling either of those in your constituency, and if you live somewhere with massive untouchable majority, then vote for the person who looks most likely to lose their deposit, thus doing some good with your vote...

Hmm interesting - what with all the badman kerfuffle I hadnt given a thought to what other political parties might think about HE.

Omm - Im interested in your opinions about the Greens and them being 'statist' - what do you mean?

About half the HErs I know are very 'green' in their outlook - ecofriendly etc and mostly green voters I should think.
I have by default (because I dont much of the others and felt betrayed by new labour) voted green since TBlair got in.

Hmmm....I cant believe I am actually considering voting tory!!! ...not only that I am starting to see the point of the House of Lords!!!!! (what would the socialist 17 year old me think of THAT???!!)

Have written to my MP (Lab) but she is standing down at the next election so I suppose it was a waste of time.

Do you know how I can find out who the cons/lib dem/UKIP people who will be contesting the next election are in my area?

I may have done the Greens a disservice.

Here's the horse's mouth:

here

The bits I don't like are:

"The Green Party does recognise the need for regulation of some form to ensure that home educated children make progress, but certainly not in the form proposed in the report."

so they are up for regulation (NB remember that the LAs ALREADY have powers to act if they have reason to believe that a suitable education is taking place. NB also there are some children who will not be making progress at a given time, either because of SEN or because of hitting a natural plateau)

But it's pretty supportive in general. You probably can vote for them with a clear conscience

BEcaroo - write to the local constituency offices?

SpringHeeledJack · 26/02/2010 20:00

I wouldn't be too convinced on Tory policy re HE

I noticed there was a bit in the Mail (free copy, honest!) today, being sniffy about the lack of regulation...once the likes of the Mail get the bit between their teeth on this one (from a CP angle), you can bet the Tories will go for it too
