Hi
i have found a french tutor for DD, who is currently teaching high set y7. DD was midway through Y8, and though not in the highest set (only due to ability in other lessons though - she is a star at French) and tutor has suggested she teach DD the same as she teaching at school?

I think maybe French and English are going to be the subjects we are going to take a more structured approach with - French because she loves it and is desparate to do well, and English because it is the one she struggles with most. The rest, maths, science etc we are going to do on a ad-hoc basis, and a lot less formal learning (although DD is panic stricken at the thought of not doing any written work)

I am taking her to see Toy Story 3D tomorrow, while DD2 is at her childminders, and because it will be during school time, DD thinks it must be an educational trip and has therefore wrote a plan for a film review, found a Toy Story worksheet pack she printed out and completed and only stopped when i insisted she come with DD2 and I to the park She is soooo keen!

Hi - it does sound like she's very keen, which is good in that it means she wants to learn, but a bit bad too if she's still so very much in the mindset of how school works. But if she's learning and happy, then however she wants to play it has to be a good thing!

I think your plan sounds good - mixing a more structured approach for some areas with a looser approach to others. And it's good you've found someone to be involved in her favourite subject - once the tutor gets a feel for what your DD already knows, they may want to make it more different from how its covered in school, but that will come in time and Yr7 top set work sounds like a good starting point for them to do together.

Enjoy your film!
