Hi - I see from trawling these threads that your DS started at Inter High in September. How is it going now the "honeymoon" period is over. We are considering this as an option for my DD and would appreciate any comments you have. I have already "spoken" to MuminScotland about this.

It's going very well so far. DS is happy and learning and, although the whole idea of logging on for lessons seemed strange, he seems to have settled into it happily.

Year 7 has been split into 2 classes with 12 in each group. He gets lots of talk time with his teachers during the lessons and he enjoys getting feedback for homework (whether good or bad!) as this was something that was lacking in yr 6 at school.

We have had to organise all of the extras. He has one-to-one art tuition for 2 hours on Thursday afternoons towards an IGCSE. He has joined a tennis and rugby club and swims/gyms with me a couple of times a week. He goes to Woodcraft Folk once a week and we make sure he gets to see his friends as much as poss (mum and dad taxi service)

It is still early days but we are happy with it so far.

Thank you for this. I am finding the whole thing very scary and have had some sleepless nights over it. We are having a demonstration with them on Wednesday and so far are very encouraged by everything we have found out and their responses to our questions. It just seems such an unconventional thing to do, but conventional is just not working for DD and I think that is what I have to tell myself!

How did the demo go today?

chocaholic73 · 01/11/2009 20:27

We were impressed by the demonstration. We are fairly close to deciding to go for it, just waiting for them to answer a couple more questions. Still having the occasional panic though!

Well DD started with Inter High on Monday. She has gone into Y7, although she is actually Y8 age. Early days but she seems to be enjoying it. If you're around Bubble - how long does your Ds spend on his homework and what does he do the rest of the afternoon?

Good to hear it's going well.

He seems to be spending longer on his homework now than he did when he first started in September. He tends to do it straight after the lessons, or as soon as it is uploaded by the teacher. Some of the HW is Q&As but other teachers set project work which he enjoys. He likes the fact that he gets feedback, something he didn't seem to get in primary school - and that his effort is acknowledged, rather than just stuffed in a file for Ofsted to see.

If you CAT me I'd be happy to talk to you about school stuff.

In the afternoons he swims or goes to the gym with me, meets up with his cousins and a couple of friends after school, goes to an art class one afternoon a week (one-to-one teaching with an artist friend of mine) and he'll be starting horse riding lessons in the new year.

One thing I hadn't anticipated is how much better he now gets on with his three younger brothers. When he was still at school he barely acknowledged his 9 year old brother, except to argue and fight. They are now, almost, friends
