Any HEers in West Midlands area? We are a bit lonely!

DD is 6 and an only child, and its just me and her at home. We are not very organised HEers - not quite autonomous as I do have a vague idea of what I'd like her to achieve. But mainly play-based and following her interests. And a lot of poking things with sticks

We do get out and about as much as possible but the people we know who HE have either got teenagers or toddlers. I don't drive so we have trouble getting to groups and activities.

We'd just love to know some people locally with similar aged children to get together with every now and then.

Hi QueenOfFuckingEverything
I presume you get HELM-the local HE newsletter?

I don't know of any other HEers on Mumsnet who are from Stourbridge, I'm in Bromsgrove and RoofTop is in Birmingham, but thats about it here I think (unless someone else is about to pop out of the woodwork )

Are you a member of the local HE email support group that covers the West mids?

rooftop · 15/09/2009 22:16

Hi Queen.....
Im in Birmingham and know a few children around 6yrs old. If u send me your e-mail addy I will send you some meeting details.

julienoshoes · 16/09/2009 09:37

QueenOfFuckingEverything did you email me via the local HE website?
If that was you, I have answered you directly with more details.

LeonieSoSleepy I'm in Bromsgrove Worcs, so not very far from you.

If you want more info about home ed in Birmingham email me via the [email protected] on the Worcestershire HE website and I can fill you in.

QueenOfFuckingEverything · 16/09/2009 20:32

Hiya - julie, yes that was me! Thanks for the reply. Will be getting HELM and went to the picnic in Brum today which was lovely. DD really really enjoyed it

I am about to start Home educating ds2, we are in Birmingham. Any advice would be really welcome

nappyaddict · 16/10/2009 16:10

DS is 3.4 and I think we may be home educating him (also possible ASD or GDD) and we are in Kingswinford, so not far from Stourbridge.

I think there is a group that meets in Hagley?

ChairmumMiaow · 19/10/2009 12:25

ooh I'm glad I've found this. DS isn't 2 yet but HE is definitely an option for us, and people/support in the area would be a massive part of the choice I think.

I'll be watching this with interest to see how many turn up

Julie, I'm in Bromsgrove too.

julienoshoes · 19/10/2009 16:48

hello ChairmumMiaow
why don't you come along to one of the meetings locally then and meet folk and chat!
There is one happening local to Bromsgrove tomorrow morning!

email me on
[email protected] for details

ChairmumMiaow · 19/10/2009 17:13

Thanks for the invite but tomorrow is nursery day - I have to work at the moment but probably won't in the future.

Also one of the things that worries me is that I don't drive (and have no plans to learn) so getting to meetings etc might well be difficult!

I'd definitely be interested in coming along on a different day though.

julienoshoes · 19/10/2009 17:44

email me anyway, and we can chat.

we have others who come along to meetings where parent doesn't drive. Usually we try and arrange for meets to be accessable to public transport or else someone will usually pick you up from bus/train stations, or sometimes give you a lift the whole way.

knat · 13/11/2009 16:22

sorry to hijack but does anyone know of a local TAmworth HE group? We've been hedding for 8 months my dd is 6 and has asd so getting out is a problem but something i want to try and encourage in manageable amounts and thought the he group with other children might be worht a try?

julienoshoes · 13/11/2009 16:48

Don't know of a Tamworth group specifically-but if you email me via our local HE group in Worcestershire, I can send you details of how to get in touch with the local home ed group, some of whom meet in Sutton, so not too far away.
There is also yahoo group that covers the area, so you can ask on there to see if anyone home educating near to you in Tamworth.

nappyaddict · 24/11/2009 01:50

Can I ask do any of you follow any sort of curriculum or use text books?

WildSheepChase · 24/11/2009 02:32

I'm interested in HE. My son is nearly 15mo, so it's not urgent, but I am one stop down the line from Stourbridge!

OP are you the HE-er I already know, with a few dreads and the odd piercing? ;) If so, we need to do coffee.

QueenOfFlamingEverything · 24/11/2009 17:36

WildSheepChase - I dunno, I do have dreads but no piercings, not these days

QueenOfFlamingEverything · 24/11/2009 17:48

Ohhhh I know who you are [penny drops]

Yes lets do coffee and soon too, 'cos we are moving to Walesland after Christmas.

WildSheepChase · 24/11/2009 20:59

Oh I love Walesland! Whereabouts? Anywhere near my old homeykins?

EachPeachPearMum · 25/11/2009 22:43

Sorry... not HEing (though in WM!) just wanted to say to wildsheepchase- I love your name... it's possibly my favourite book (if it's possible to choose just one that is)
