I would love to HE but there are so many obstacles.

The main one is that I am a lone parent.

Heaps more, many of which I could overcome - not being able to drive for example

I just cant help but think I could HE my kids and although they would be with me 24/7 I think ds would be happier.

Oooooh the frustration!

One thing in your favour is that you don't have to convince an uncooperative husband that HE is a viable alternative...

Do your family support you? I found that a bigger stumbling block tbh.

Yurtgirl · 19/01/2009 14:32

I spoke to the children's father about it on saturday. I seemed to think HE was quite a good idea actually!
And volunteered to help - we get on really well (despite the negative bit in my next sentance!) so this wouldnt be a problem in itself

He doesnt pay maintenance atm (long story full of his excuses) If he should start to do so - would this solve the problem of income support etc

In other words if he pays it would be £70 plus per week so in effect wouldnt get income support - would I therefore be okay?

(I know I know he should pay and doesnt - arghhhh I have hit a brick wall for the moment on this issue)

Again I'd suggest the Single Parents Home Ed support list. It is an EO list but you do not have to be a member to join it and get the support and advice you need.
I know that home educating alone/making a living/coping with ex partners, are all hot topics over there-they really are 'the people in the know'

I don't drive, Yurtgirl. At least, I do in theory but have never owned a car.

Doesn't seem to hold us back, being the public transport and shanks pony family

I am a single parent, and don't drive either (no hope of learning). We go round by bike a lot. I have also found that other HE families are remarkably generous about offering lifts to my dds when there is a trip that would be hard to get to by public transport.
It is definitely possible.
