Pearson igcse remote invigilation

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with Pearson igcse remote invigilation?
For various reasons it may be the only option for DS to take GCSE’s, but I’m nervous about the set up.
Has it worked for anyone?
Thanks

I don’t have personal experience because my DC who are not in school have home invigilation, but I know it has worked for others.

Although I also have concerns and I know my concerns are shared by some others. What happens when tech goes wrong either on a widespread scale or individual level?

You mention it may be the only option. If that is because of SEN, you will need to check if the access arrangements DS requires are compatible with remote invigilation. Not all are possible. And for some of the ones that are have limitations e.g. rest breaks can be accommodated but candidates have to remain in the room in view of the camera.

Thanks.
Yes, the tech going wrong that I’m concerned about.
His access requirements are quite simple and will be allowed.
I’m just not sure what other options I have, he will almost definitely be too anxious to go to an exam centre.
It would be interesting to hear from anyone that has done remote invitation (either successfully or unsuccessfully!)

I’m new to all of this, I haven’t heard of home invigilation. Is that something anyone can access? (We’d be paying privately, not sure if that’s something we can do?)

Home invigilation is possible for EHE DC, but it can be difficult to arrange. You would need to find an exam centre who offered it and had availability. Not all centres offer it and when they do, it books up early. My DC who have home invigilation have EOTAS/EOTIS rather than EHE.

It is very difficult to access. In theory it is possible. You would need to find an exam centre who can facilitate it, and it would be very expensive (which I know remote invigilaton is). The thing to do is contact your local exam centres.

We considered remote invigilation and went quite far down the line in terms of understanding exactly how it would work on the day and what it would take to arrange. I was put off in the end by the thought of there being technical issues on the day and the impact that would have on my child. I also noticed that the set up time for each exam - the logging in, the examiner checking your work space etc - would take a long time
and use up what precious little energy my dd has. I also felt that it could cause friction between me and her and generally a lot of anxiety on the day if the printer jammed or the internet went down or something. And it just felt like a LOT of set up. For example I think they require two separate cameras? The other thing for us is that we found an exam centre that is incredible friendly and small and doesn’t feel formal at all. We did visits and mocks there beforehand. That’s another thing to think about.

for in home invidulation you need to be quite close to the exam centre as they will not travel very far. It’s worth looking at all the options. We have a very small centre near us you can have a private room or a room with max 6 in it. Be warned you need to be arranging it now a year in advance if looking for next year. Other access arrangements could be access to a laptop, ear buds, fidget toy, sat near the door, supervised rest breaks, extra time. My teen has been granted all these to sit an exam in a small room as they preferred this to a single room as that was too intense with an invigilator they didn’t know.
