Online school for A-levels

Reposting from the Secondary School board, as had no replies...

Has anyone done this? We're intending to move to abroad as soon as my daughter finishes her GCSES, but the only international schools where we are moving have the IB system and I think she will struggle with the switch to IB (and will most likely have to repeat a year as she hasn't done some of the IB required subjects at GCSES). The most attractive option is for us to sign her up with an online school like InterHigh, which will enable her to continue with the British system and do her A-levels. Has anyone done this successfully? Any advice or experience welcome. She doesn't have any SEN.

A friend of mine has a child enrolled at King’s InterHigh, currently at the GCSE stage. She’s very pleased with the school, says the teachers respond very quickly when emailed and the exam set up isn’t too difficult. She has been very impressed so far.

I would look at any practicals required particularly if doing sciences as they can be costly and difficult to arrange. Also subjects that require coursework especially Arts will be very difficult to arrange with the invidulation requirements
Think careful about where they will take the exams as that impacts which exam board you study. Have a look at Uk Exans & alternatives face book group as they have a wiki with information. I’m not sure if you can currently sit A level exams online yet - kings do have the ability to sit GCSEs and iGCSEs online again it’s costly.

Thank you. 🙏 I will look into it in a lot more detail and discuss with the school. They seemed very helpful when I spoke to them. Depending on how her triple science GCSES go, she was looking at taking Chemistry and Biology at A-levels as she's looking at going down the STEM route at uni, but of course as you say I need to look into the practical requirements and exams.

I also worry about social isolation with online school, but would try to get her into things outside of school as we have horses so would be looking at a yard with kids her age and also my mum is very involved in the community through her work so hoping she can get my daughter involved with teen activities. School would have been an easy place to make new friends though.

Be aware if she comes back to the UK for uni she’ll be paying overseas fees (£20k a year) with no fee or maintenance loan.

Ohh thank you for reminding me of this. The idea was for her to go to uni in Germany (where we are moving to) as it's free, but definitely something to think about.
