Hello, my 14 year old daughter has extreme anxiety now, she has always been fine but within the last 6 months it's gone to the extreme but only when school or going to school is involved, at the beginning she would miss days as she had certain classes, but for the last 2 months we she has refused to attend, she is very intelligent and is not even leaving the house, if I try to talk to her she blocks me out completely, she has been referred to cahms the mental health services for young people,
While trying to support her as I actually feel for her,. My heart is broken with her stress, she has done as much work as she can everyday from home,
My problem is the school want me to deregister her, I don't want to as I believe with the help of cahms she may be OK, she's not naughty just scared of what I wish I knew,
And the school trying to wipe there hands of her is not reasonable as whatever happened to cos her anxiety happened there,
Any advice would be so much appreciated,
She is my youngest daughter, I have a son who is a criminal statics expert and daughter who teach English in a secondary school, so I do have experience but this is a tough cook

She has a legal right to full time education and if the school cannot/will not meet need they need to go through the LA and say they cannot meet need although she will need to have a needs assessment if she hasn't already with an Ed psych, usually as part of an ehcp application.

If school are not fulfilling their role and cannot meet need then the LA has a duty to find her alternate provision. In fact, they have to find her alternate provision anyway, the threshold is actually very low but most LAs shirk on their duty.

Having anxiety, she certainly has SEN even if her only diagnosis is anxiety. I would check out your local SENDIASS for advice and signposting.

Thank you so much for your response I'll check out SENDIASS asap

Did her anxiety come out of the blue? Have you discussed PANDAS with a GP? It sounds very strange if it came from nowhere. Just a thought.

The school are breaking the law.
if you have t don’t then for support you can contact your LA “off rolling” staff, probably part of children missing education of education inclusion

Don’t deregister. The school should not be trying to off-roll DD. If DD can’t attend the LA has a duty to ensure she still receives a suitable full-time education. On their website, IPSEA has a model letter you can use to request this. Whereas if you deregister and electively home educate the LA will say you are making suitable alternative arrangements, thereby relieving them of this duty.

Alongside this, request an EHCNA. IPSEA also has a model letter you can use. An EHCP can provide more support, including therapies, than the majority of parents can fund themselves.

Be careful with SENDIASS. Some are good, but too many repeat the LA’s unlawful policies. IPSEA and SOSSEN are better.
