Thanks for that link, Emma.

My mum recently gave found my school report from 1973 (when I was 7) and we compared it to DS2s. The main thing that stood out was that my report seemed to show more of an understanding of the kind of child that I was, what interested me, what I found difficult etc.

DS2s was more a list of the 'targets' he'd achieved. Maybe I'm wearing rose-tinted specs but it seems to me that my teachers had the opportunity to spend a lot more time getting to know me. The current system seems to place target attainment above all else.

PLEASE TELL US WHAT, WHERE AND WHEN IS THIS SCIENCE FESTIVAL THAT SOUNDS SO TEMPTING. thanks

roisin · 08/03/2008 08:12

Science Festival is in Edinburgh over Easter time - a couple of weeks.

We went 2 years ago after Tamum's suggestion, and the boys loved it.

Ds2 discovered electronics and soldering there, and is an absolute whizz at it now.

Thanks Roisin, mine are maybe a bit young at the moment, but I love to have things to wonder about for the future. I've downloaded a family programme which I shall look at later.

We went when they were 6 and 8. But they would have loved it when they were younger too, there's a wide variety of activities.
