Online GCSE learning

My daughter has been home educated since she was in year 7 - she's just finished year 11 this year.

Unfortunately due to serious issues this year, we have been unable to complete her GCSEs or do her exams. Our idea was for her to start college in September to do her GCSEs. She has been accepted on a Maths and English GCSE course but we have been told that all the other GCSEs are for adults only so she basically can't do them at college.

Due to this, the only other option is to do an online learning course. She doesn't want me to teach her though so regular access to a tutor would be vital. To be honest, actual online live classes via video call would be perfect but I am not sure if these are even available.

Does anyone have any recommendations for who she could use and if they are any good etc?

Have you had a look at Wolsey Hall Oxford?

Londoncatshed · 07/06/2023 18:36

Netschool are fantastic for this.

FatGirlSwim · 07/06/2023 18:38

Loads of online schools.

PastTheGin · 07/06/2023 18:40

There are quite a few online schools now. Google is your friend.

CremeEgg1983 · 07/06/2023 18:42

I spent all last night googling but nothing came up particularly what I was looking for and within my price range.

I'll have a proper look at the ones suggested, thank you.

Has anyone used Cloud Learn? If so, what are they like?

DD is studying biology through cloud learn and she’s finding it ok. She did her other GCSEs through my online schooling and they were really good - much more like school with lots of support from teachers.

Just had a google of online schooling. I can't find any information on fees. What kind of prices do they charge?

£2 Tuition Hub are excellent as an extra top up.

CremeEgg1983 · 07/06/2023 19:53

@Shirty48 Thank you, I didn't think to look in the FAQs

I have no experience, but you might find this page useful. It mentions some things to keep in mind when choosing a provider.

cyncope · 09/06/2023 12:14

£2 Tuition Hub do several iGCSE courses.

CremeEgg1983 · 10/06/2023 00:18

I've had a look at the £2 Tuition hub and that looks really good, as well as affordable. So the 5 sessions for £10, would that be 5 weeks worth of lessons? Do they set homework in between?

cyncope · 10/06/2023 19:16

It will vary from teacher to teacher, generally there will be tasks/homework set but not marked or assessed. There are worksheets and sometimes a set textbook used.
£10 would be the cost for one block of 5 weekly lessons, roughly each half term. Six 5 week blocks in the year.

We used a mixture of providers. Southwest science school, homemade education, learntec and maths watch. My son got 5 igcses with good grades and has just finished his first year on a 2 year level 3 course at college.
