Hey everyone,
Hope you're all having a good weekend so far.

My and my partner have been discussing home schooling our 4 year old from September and are just wondering if there's any official channel to go through before you start etc? Still very much in the research phase for us and would like advice from people who do it.

We are looking at actives outside of schooling to keep up with socialisation, football as an example.

Any advice on what is the best way to go about it?

Thank you

No, home education is the default in all countries of the UK so if your child isn't already at school, you don't have to inform anyone that you are home educating. Just get stuck in! Until your child reaches "Compulsory School Age" (which is the legal term though it's misleading!) there's no legal requirement to do anything at all. After that, your duty is to provide your child with a suitable education. However, the law doesn't specify exactly what that means, so it is up to you to work out what your own child needs and how to give it to them.

I suggest you get in touch with other parents in your area who are home educating. It's likely there will be social and educational activities on offer via the HE community. People share ideas, information, and support. Most groups are on Facebook these days. Go to the FB search bar and type "home education" followed by the name of your town or county or nearest big city.

If you have any trouble finding one, feel free to ask on here and probably someone can help you find it.
