Does anybody have experience of any 'alternative' schools ? (I know this is not really HE, but...)

...maybe there are some like minded people lurking here ?

I intended to HE, but DH has decided he's not keen (and DS does love his nursery).

So I am looking for a natural extention to his nursery really.

Particularly interested in:

Park School - Totnes, Devon.
Lewes New School - Lewes.
The New Forest Small School - Lyndhurst.
Summerhill - Sussex.
Sands School - Ashburton, Devon.

Any info/pointers would be greatly appreciated.

That's very interesting Artichokes, thanks.

So sorry to hear that your Mum died.

Wow, what a lady !! My Mum keeps suggesting that I start a school locally, but I really can't see myself doing it.

I think that I do now need to go and look around a few of these schools (esp Park).

Last Sat, DS was offered a place at our first choice state school, but I just don't want to send him. DH (of course) thinks we shold just send him and see how he gets on, but he just can't see where I am coming from. He thinks that if the mainstream doesn't work, we can look at alternatives, but I just don't agree with the mainstream to start with. I knew this would happen....

Hi Jamsambam

I hope you enjoy it (we did), if you have any questions please ask.

I was really impressed with how the meeting worked and how well controlled it was.

Thanks Stella,

im still not sure as we live on the opposite coast!! we are nearer Ireland than suffolk!

My Ds's are still so young and as a single mum im struggling with the finances, but if it makes them happy i would do anything!!

Hello,

Forgive me for going off topic - I have despaired of finding a North London school such as the ones described in these posts. The closest I have ever found (and they are not close at all) are King Alfreds, a steiner school (in Islington) and Trevor Roberts - but they are nowwhere near what I'm looking for.

As a result, I am instead hoping that I might find some London families who are interested in reducing the cost and parental time commitment of home education whilst also increasing the opportunity for friendships/socialising by pooling resources (ie. communal/cooperative home education, sharing the cost of tutor(s), helping to educate/have fun with each other's children). Sorry about that long sentence!

I'm a single, working parent living in Camden, London, with a 7 year old daughter who currently goes to private school.

If any of this is of interest to you, please contact me!
