Is it possible to home swap with some other home ed families.

I would really like to take our son to London to have a blast at the museums etc. there. But there is no way I could afford the accomodation.
Would any other Home ed families like to swap houses with me. I live completely in the country on the border between England and Wales in Herefordshire. You are more likely to meet a tractor or horse on our lane that a car.
One downside would be you possibly having to put up with my eldest still being at home. (he may come with us depending on work holidays etc.) It would be nice to visit sometime in the Autumn as we are busy and broke bunnies until probably October.

Hi discoverlife. We live in Cambridgeshire so it's still an hour on the train to London (Kings Cross) plus 15 mins to station, but if you don't get any closer offers we might be interested. Cambridge is also a nice place to visit - museums / history / botanical gardens....

I'd ask on the main EO email support list
to be found at the bottom of their web page

or on the UKHE support list

..although Cambridge sounds nice!

I've never looked that far down on the page.

I know some of the universities offer their accommodation to rent outside of term time and it's much cheaper than a hotel. try googling some of their websites.

I am already a member of the YHA and use them quite often, but I prefer to houseswap for anything longer than 4 days as you get everything at the house you could need. Most especially a bedroom you don't have to share with your kids and a washing machine so you don't have to take too many clothes with you.

we live in cambridgeshire too but if you house swapped with us you'd have to take on the work too .It is nice here though but I would prefer less neighbours and more greenspace

Interested in holiday home swapping. Think of it , not having to lug all the baby equipment around because the other peoples house will already have it. That is if you choose a house with approximatly the same age kids.

I'd like to swap with someone in New Zealand and never give it back

discoverlife · 23/01/2008 23:38

I want to do a full month in Australia, had the ball rolling for that one as well. But landlord at the time wanted the house back so we had to cancel. It was arranged for the Aussie summer as well, the people who wanted a swap wanted to be in Britain to celebrate a relatives birthday and to experience some weather.
The best one I ever lusted after, was the swap to Phuket in Thialand and it included the housekeeper/cook, the gardener and the chauffer, as the wages had to be paid we may as well use them.

oooh a housekeeper and cook, I could really use some help there- mind with the amount of cooking the little peeps have done this week just a washer upper would be nice. A gardener would need nerves of steel and a JCB to sort our outside space out the words bomb and site spring to mind
Never really fancied Thailand but if the visa application system for NZ doesn't change then Australia would be good.

A lot of people do the House swaps for job or emigrating reasons as well. It takes a bit longer to arrange a suitable one but it is a regular thing for people to ask for 6 months and to have it done.
The ones who are trying out an area or country before taking the plunge are fairly common, so are the proffessionals taking sabbaticals etc.
