Hello beautifulsnowydays
Yes I'm here-and in North Worcs-in Bromsgrove actually.

We have quite an active HE group and a supportive one.
Have a look at our website
www.worcestershire-home-educators.co.uk/
and you'll see what I mean-and contact me through the info@ link and I'll tell you more details directly.

Looking forward to chatting to you.

beautifuldays - we must stop meeting each other on threads lol. i'm interested in home ed too. my mum thinks i'm barking but never mind. ds isn't due to go until september 2010 though.

Julienoshoes · 08/01/2008 17:41

Are you still around beautifulsnowydays?

Do you still have questions about home educating in Worcestershire?

terramum · 13/01/2008 22:07

Been offline due to a house move & only just seen this... I'm just over the border in Warks with a 3.5 year old & have been lurking on the local HE lists for nearly 2 years now & attended a few local groups. Happy to answer any questions/point you in the right direction.

beautifuldays · 15/01/2008 18:24

hi yes sorry forgot about this thread
have been meaning to e-mail you, as i would really love to meet some one who is home-educating in real life if you know what i mean.

my ds is 3.5 and due to start school in september. at the moment i am really unsure as to what would be best for him. i have handed in a school application, but not made any decision yet as to whether or not he will be going. i have ordered some books on home-educating as i don't know enough about it, so i need to find out more before i make any decisions.

i would love to talk to some people who are really doing it and know all the ins and outs of it. so far everyone i've dared mention it to thinks i'm barking! plus my dh and my mum (and quite a lot of my close friends) are teachers, so they all get really defensive when i mention it, as tho i am having a go at them personally, which of course i'm not.

i live in hagley, so only 5 mins down the road from you julie, and not too far from you either terramum. i would love to meet up if you have a morning to spare

at the moment i am struggling with nursery. ds is not keen, he has been going 3 mornings since september, and is not keen. he doesn't hate it by any means, and actually has a nice time when he's there, he just hates not being with mummy and i am really struggling with whether i should be making him go or not. one the one hand i think, well you don't have to go (i'm a sahm) if it upsets you leaving mummy, but on the other hand i know he has a nice time when he's there and has the opportunity to join in with lots of lovely activities, and more importantly is learning to trust other adults. so i am really torn about that as well! i am hopeless at making decisions!

anyway, thanks for replying and maybe see you soon!
thanks xx

Julienoshoes · 15/01/2008 18:37

OOH there is a regular home ed meeting in Hagley and the next date is coming up soon!
AND folks go there with children of a similar age to yours,

You would also be welcome at the meeting I run near to Bromsgrove, where families with children of all ages come along.
Actually of course you would be welcome at all of our meetings, but they would be a good start for you and not too far.

Email me at the info@ link on our website below-messages there come straight to me, and I can send you details and you can come along and chat to folks and ask as many questions as you like.

In the meantime have you found www.muddlepuddle.co.uk/ yet? A website especially for home ed families with young children.
And there is an early years HE support list attached to it;
groups.yahoo.com/group/EarlyYearsHE/
the folks there have all been in your situation and you will be welcome and supported there.

Looking forward to talking to you soon

regards
Julie

beautifuldays · 15/01/2008 21:19

i have e-mailed you julie
thanks very much xxx

SueBaroo · 15/01/2008 21:21

How can you not like the school in Hagley?

Just kidding. That should say 'How can you be under 65 and live in Hagley?'

terramum · 15/01/2008 21:34

Am without transport atm as DH's car is off the the road so he is using mine to get to work...but happy to jump on a bus/train (DS loves 'em as well!) & meet up somewhere if you want beautifuldays.

beautifuldays · 15/01/2008 21:34

there does seem to be a disproportionate ammount of snobs and grannies in hagley! obviously i am neither

where are you suebaroo? do you home ed?

beautifuldays · 15/01/2008 21:36

thanks terramum
where about are you? i have a ds who also loves trains maybe we could meet half way?

how old are your kids, what made you home ed?

(sorry about all the questions )

beautifuldays · 15/01/2008 21:39

sorry terramum, just re-read thread and seen that you ds is the same age as mine, sorry!

SueBaroo · 15/01/2008 22:42

beautifuldays - PIL live in Hagley and Dh grew up there, bless him.

the same PIL who have thus far been very supportive of HE, and today dropped the bombshell that they were fine with the girls being educated at home, but of course, boys will go to school.

TheodoresMummy · 15/01/2008 23:48

I'm in Warks too, terramum.

Whereabouts are you ?

terramum · 15/01/2008 23:49

Yep - DS is 3.5 - he's our first (so far ). We are just outside Redditch. Any suggestions for good places to meet?

I'm not sure how I first found out about HE...I'd always planned on not sending DS to school until he was 5 but had no idea that HE was an option...I think I just gradually became aware that that a few people on another forum I'm on didn't send their children to school & just got curious so started asking questions & then joined a few of the HE yahoo groups. I mainly lurked and read the messages & gradually started to think that HE was rather a good idea & mentioned it to DH who totally agreed with all my arguments for it (much to my surprise!). So here we autonomously HEing & just enjoying being with DS, & letting him learn at his own pace & living our lives without too much hassle .

terramum · 16/01/2008 00:06

Ooh cool TheodoresMummy! I'm just south of Redditch Where are you?

Julienoshoes · 16/01/2008 09:07

terramum and Theodores mummy
We have a monthly meeting between Redditch and Bromsgrove, that you would be very welcome to come along to-its about 5-10mins drive from junc 1 of the M42.
Or I could arrange a lift for you from a local station.

We have families with children of all ages coming along we had five new families there last week-three of them brand new to home ed!

beautifuldays I am finding the info for you and responding to your email.

TheodoresMummy · 16/01/2008 16:21

We are in Stratford.

terramum · 16/01/2008 20:41

A lift would be lovely from the station Julie...but probably not practical with DS being little - don't really fancy lugging his car seat all the way into town on the bus ....hopefully DH's car will be back on the road in the next couple of months & I can start coming to the Bromsgrove meetings then.

TheodoresMummy - are there any groups that you know of in/around Stratford? A friend who lives further south did say she thought there was a one...but couldn't remember for sure & I've never managed to track it down. Even the local EO contact wasn't aware of one.

TheodoresMummy · 16/01/2008 20:55

Not as far as I know.

My Mum is a member of EO so has their cantact list.

I think there are about 3 entries on there for Stratford area, but haven't made any contact yet.

Suppose I should.

nappyaddict · 17/01/2008 02:00

julienoshoes - i would be interested in going to the hagley meet. ds is only 18 months though - is he too young?

nappyaddict · 17/01/2008 02:10

btw do you ever meet up with the shropshire group?

do you know of the website for the birmingham group cos i can't find it.

Julienoshoes · 17/01/2008 07:25

Hi nappyaddict
I don't think your ds would be too young-I think it is a brilliant idea to begin socialising with folks who are home educated from an early age, if you know that is what you are going to do.
That way your child will see it as normal not to go to school because he will know loads of people who don't, when the time comes for other friends to go off to school.

I'm certain you will be welcomed at the Hagley group. We have not got to that meeting yet, although I have heard really good things about it as my dd's social life is so busy there simply isn't enough time!

I have met up with a few members of the Shropshire group-we are going to see Swan Lake, the dance company Stomp, a Holst the Planets concert and Hamlet, by ShakespeareforKidz theatre company, within the next month, all with one of the members of the Shropshire group.

yes I do know the addy for the West Midlands group, which includes Birmingham

email me via the info@link at our website below and I will supply those details and the contact details for the Hagley meeting.

regards
Julie
