Education officer troubles

Hello,

I have a 9 year old in year 4. We already have had several issues with his school but he has been home educating at home since September due to covid. I do not want to risk his health and we have very vulnerable people in the immediate family. We suddenly lost my father as well in December 2020 so it has been a very tough year. The school will not come with a solid return plan to school with me. The education officer is awful to the point I put in a complaint.. Still stuck with said EWO.

I have now said that as nothing is changing I will deregister him by end of term if they don't start to actually show some kind if professionalism. He misses school and the school structure but even he is starting to feel very failed and disappointed.

How do I deal with the EWO? I know this is mostly on going because he is at the moment still registered with a school. We are so so sick of it it isn't even funny. I am point blank refusing contact with the EWO due to their behaviour.

@Abeetlebugmama

Some of you are so hung up about covid that your own problems really show. 🙈 it is ridiculous. It is all well to pick one thing out of a long list and run with it but it shows how rather narrow minded you are.

You want to go inhale covid in a line and go steroid Steve on it, that is a-okay. Some of us are a little more cautious. As said many comments ago : if it was ONLY because of covid, we would have de registered at the start of the school year already. It is not only because of covid hence seeking advice, which a small few have been lovely and helpful with and thank you for that.

I'll let my child go have his daily dose of 10 minutes by the window now though in full protection gear, don't want him to miss out.

I'm really not sure what you expected to get from this thread OP.

If you think, totally unrelated to covid, the school is failing then you should have moved schools or deregistered until a space at another school became available not keep your child off school since September.

You say covid isn't even the main issue yet state things you think your child should get at school above and beyond the other children because you feel it necessary. You have not explained why you think the school are allowing these measures for some children but not your child. Why would they create that system just to deny you unless there are criteria your child doesn't meet?

The school have procedures to accommodate children not their parents. Unless you can provide medical evidence of why your child needs these arrangements you need to deregister or send him to school.

I think in any event your relationship with the school has broken down so you may need to look for another school place anyway.

I think there has been a basic misunderstanding. When the school said 'there needs to be a plan' I think the expectation is that you will come up with a plan for how you will return your son to education. Not that they will come up with a plan.

I came up with at least 3 plans, all were agreed with and then not followed through with or cancelled, for lack of a better word.

I don't know why you need a plan to phase him in. He's either going or he's not.

LonginesPrime · 01/12/2021 20:53

would a phased return be ok as thats something that I'd do anyway due to his pain levels related to the connective tissue disorder

Where is the SENCO in all of this, OP?

Is a disability social worker involved? Occupational therapist?

I'd expect these people to be involved in meetings to manage all of this for a child with a disability and ongoing medical needs - is DS known to them? If not, it sounds like he should be.

I assume he doesn't have an EHCP but have you considered applying for one?

He gets to look out the window?!?

That’s a joke right?!?

Your posts are very contradictory

  1. He isn't in school because he is traumatised by bereavement.
2 he isn't in school because of covid. He isn't in school because you don't like the way they operate and lack of responsibility.
  1. He isn't in svhool because you want a phased return and they haven't put together a plan.
My bet is that you have absutely no intention of returning him to school. The EWOis fully aware that there is nothing anyone could do to make you happy with school and that your request for a phased return are nothing more than a delaying tactic to get them off your back. I would also like to bet that your child has a long history of poor attendance . De register and stop wasting everyone's time.
