hi everyone, my daughter is unhappy at her school so we are moving her to online school as she would like to do it and we both agreed it would be best for her.
I just want to ask how have people got on with homeschooling in secondary school and mostly GCSEs/ igcse years (10 and 11)?

She's currently in year 10 and she wants to start as soon as possible. after looking at some options such as kings InterHigh, Cambridge, Wolsey, Pearson online academy, Oxford homeschooling and some more. we really can't put a finger on one and reviews have all been different.

She mostly liked the look of harrow school to only realise it was a sixth form which is a shame as she would of perhaps gone there.
But really just want to know peoples reviews on some of the online schools and what is the best you've experienced and would recommend?

please feel free to comment on this as it would be really helpful and if you have any other school suggestions. many thanks

Hi,
There are lots of tutors that are home educators themselves, which is always great as they understand the whole 'process' better too, and are usually more affordable.
For maths, there is 'absolute Maths', for science you'll fine now wholebrain science and southwest science school. There is Humanatees for history and geography.
There are quite a few others, all the above run iGCSEs courses, and some can help with exam centres and so on.
If you're on Facebook, I would check the iGCSE home Ed group.
Hope that helps

Sorry, my mistake, it is whole brain home education.

There is also virtual school, not sure how prices compare.

@corrinabarkerr1
What did you decide on. My DS has again come home desperately unhappy from school.
He has a v long journey (spends almost 3 hours on bus in) and it's just not working

There are so many tutors for all subjects. Try tutorhunt or firsttutors

forcedfun · 24/12/2021 08:16

We used interhigh and I was really impressed

lilyfire · 24/12/2021 08:27

We use different resources for different subjects - Absolute Maths, Humanatees, SouthWest Science, English Elephant, Learntec for Computer Science, Pastel and Smudge for art and KS3 English. Also checkout Dreaming Spires

Just wondered the pros and cons of the different online homeschool options. Looking at wolsey hall and others for IGCSE does anyone have a view?

Checkout the “Partners”page on tutors and exams there are lots of options there.
Netschool, Kingsinterhigh, Pearson, MyonlineSchool and others do an all in one offering if that’s what you want. You can also pick and mix from specialist providers as above posters have suggested.
We have used Kingsinterhigh as a backbone with a couple of add-ons from different providers which works well for us.
The Good schools guide reviews about 3 online schools - if you can get a free trial or a short subscription it could be worth your while for an objective view on those and a feel for what to ask while looking at others. There are few all in one online schools that are really a bit dodgy - be super careful about reading small print and doing research before signing up.
Good luck to you both, it’s an unnerving step but can be amazingly positive.

It is very much horse for courses when it comes to distance learning providers.

First thing to do is look for places to sit the exams. If you have the freedom and the funds to travel then not so much of an issue. However if you are looking at staying local you might find your local exam centre isn't registered for Cambridge exams for example. No point signing up for a course that you will find it difficult to arrange exams in.

Then make a list of what you want from a course
1 or 2 years or more flexible
Start now or are you happy to wait until Sept or June
Live lessons so a schedule and interaction or something self led and more flexible?
Videos or book based
How much tutor input

Don't feel like you need to stick to one provider for all subjects
