Asking for a friend who is being shunted from pillar to post trying to get a covid jab for 13yo in London. Any suggestions?

The roll out for 12-15 yr olds in England is shambolic. Even those in school are not able to access it equally. There is only capacity to vaccinate 20% of pupils per school. I imagine you will be told the same as us and “hopefully” there will be catch up clinics for those not vaccinated at a school. But these likely to be next year, far too late.

If their GP can't help, then contact the CCG

I don't know what the solution might be, but Home Ed DC can access at GPS other vaccinations they would otherwise miss (because they are mainly delivered by schooos based programmes). Snag with this one is the storage issues, so GPs may well. It be delivering covid jabs at all. So another venue will need to be found, and CCG should be able to help with that. Letter you can take to a drop-in might work (assuming drop-in has someone with the right qualifications to vaccinate DC) otherwise it might have to be arranged for you at a hospital

I'm having issues getting my 12 year olds double vacinated (they live with a vulnerable person) and getting passed from pilar to post at the moment. Gp says ring 119, 119 says ring gp as they only deal with over 16s, gp also say it could be schools responsibility! Nobody seems to know, after a little googling I have found our ccg has a school aged vaccination team who I'm waiting for a call back from (over a week wait). May be worth finding out if your area has a specific team. Our area is also doing a catch up clinic for those that were not in school /had covid within 28 days unfortunately it won't be 8 weeks after my twos first vaccination. Also how does your area get flu vaccinations etc to home schooled pupils?

Redhotchilis · 15/10/2021 14:24

I received letters for both DCs yesterday inviting them to have the vaccine via the bus they park up (same as when getting the flu spray) at the end of October. Unfortunately both caught covid this week anyway so it was too late.

We live in Yorkshire.

Redhotchilis · 15/10/2021 14:25

Oh and one of my DCs is still 11 but still got the invite

Regulus · 15/10/2021 14:26

We can't get them in to vaccinate even 20% of our student cohort. Interestingly the 'flu vaccination is going as planned but not one single covid jab in our Multi Academy Trust has been issued.

Just noticed your last question about flu vaccines. The same body will send a letter out inviting you to book a slot on one of their buses. They usually send us a list at different venues(eg supermarket car parks)on different dates and you can choose which one suits you best. We do have to book though, whereas a few years ago you could just turn up.

I've not heard about the flu spray yet though, I presume they're getting covid vaccinations out of the way first.

I'm getting very fed up waiting for the Covid vaccinations to take place at my daughter's school. Other than filling out an online consent form we've heard nothing else at all and cases are rising very quickly.

I'd much rather take her to one of the vaccination clinics and have it done in a prompt and efficient way just like the adult vaccinations. I'm quite angry that we're not being given a choice.
