Hey everyone. I'm new to this site, so if I am posting in the wrong place, I'm sorry. Grin

Grab a cuppa and settle in. I need to start at the beginning for you to understand my plea for help.

I can't go into specific details, because of active police investigations, but I'll do what I can.

My son is 14, has ADHD and ASD. He's had very serious concerns of safety at school. His life was threatened and a gang of about 20 pupils have chased him through the school to actively do him harm. As a result, he was secluded from mainstream school into an inclusion class. Because of this, he hasn't been getting full access to the curriculum.

My daughter is 12. She has clinical depression, elevated anxiety, PTSD, and OCD. She was sexually assaulted while we lived overseas, and has been the victim of daily sexual innuendo, sexual assault and harassment nearly every day while at school overseas. There have been some inappropriate comments and gestures made since we came back to the U.K. at school here. I've had her at the local A&E 5 times so far in the last 18 months for suicide attempts and ideations.

The school they were at, have openly admitted to me that they have failed my son. I feel now that they are both on the edge of very different knives and that almost anything to do with school can push them over to the wrong side of the knife, if you will.

I've decided to homeschool them. I just feel that homeschooling for them is the best chance they have to succeed and really shine in their education.

But what online school do I choose? There are so many. I've looked at Oxford Homeschooling and InterHigh.

What advice, if any can you amazing people give me? I've never done homeschooling before, and honestly I'm terrified. Lol.

Please help! ConfusedBlushSmile

You don’t have to use an online school, but if you choose one do involve your children in the decision - it sounds like they’ve had a rough ride and giving them as much control as possible going forward is likely to be the most important thing.

I would personally take a little time to build up their confidence before starting on a really structured program. Give them a chance to find their feet before starting to impose deliverables and grades. You can always move to that later.

Fwiw, I am no unschooler, my dc have a very structured learning environment with lots of deliverables, but we got there gradually, by working with their interests and wishes. What you do now is not necessarily what you will do forever, so I would focus on their emotional needs first.
