EHCP and deregistering

Hi all.

I have a diagnosed ASD and ADHD child with EHCP, attends mainstream school.
I want to deregister my child but don't know where I would stand with the EHCP; would it be lost/discontinued?

TIA

If you are on Facebook join the 'Home education and your local authority' group as they know the laws inside out. You don't need permission to deregister if your child is in a mainstream school. There are plenty of home educated children with EHCPs, so it shouldn't be discontinued.

Thank you CloseEncountersOfTheTurdKind for replying, I'll have a look at Facebook now!

Hope it all works out well for you, I'm home educating a child with special needs. She doesn't have ASD or ADHD, but we've met lots of home ed families with children who do. There is also a Facebook group for home educating children with special needs.

Hi, I wrote EHCPs. If you chose to EHE then you will keep your EHCP and still have annual reviews etc. You won't receive and funding or direct payments related to education though. If you decide to come back into a school, let your plan co know and they will arrange it for you.
Good luck

Sooo many typos! Sorry! We really need an edit button!

As others have posted the EHCP won't cease. However, by EHE the LA will say you are making suitable arrangements and they are relieved of their duties.

Have you considered an EOTAS package instead?

CloseEncountersOfTheTurdKind I've applied to join the group, thank you again and I'll take a look at the SEN ones.
UpdateQueen have you known of anybody with EHCP to home educate then enroll back into mainstream school later? My child is in primary and I am hoping that perhaps when they reach secondary they have the capacity to make the choice and if they chose mainstream how that transition with an EHCP might go about, if you understand what I mean.

Yeah, happens all the time Smile

The EHCP will be reviewed annually while your child is being EHE, which is just a box-ticking exercise. Then if your child wants to return to school for secondary, the EHCP will be reviewed again to take account of the new setting. Is that what you meant by "how the transition might go about"?

What is the EOTAS package?
ButterfliesnWaterfalls · 05/05/2021 22:18

If I deregister my child, then the EHCP would continue but there won't be any funding by the LA. Is that correct?

10brokengreenbottles · 06/05/2021 09:49

EOTAS is education other than at school.

DC who have bespoke EOTAS packages have different things included. DS1's includes home tuition and therapies.

If you deregister and EHE the EHCP will continue but the LA are likely to say you are making suitable arrangements and they are relieved of their duties.
