Hi all,
My Ds has ADHD, we've tried traditional bricks and mortar secondary for 2yrs now. He's going into yr9 this coming September, currently considering home schooling. Any ideas and suggestions about online providers will be greatly welcomed.
Thanks

When you say on line do you mean fully timetabled school style structure, or distance learning to be done flexibly?

Sanaa76 · 18/07/2020 15:24

Fully timetabled, and if possible live lessons, as lockdown home schooling has been a nightmare due to lack of support from state school.

There is Interhigh, can't vouch for them as we decided not to use them in the end.
Sorry you are going through this, it's a stressful time when you are let down by the school system.

Hi Carrie,
Thanks for the info, if you don't mind me asking, who did you go for in the end?

We are with Wolsey Hall, who don't do timetabled lessons so it's self directed. They send the books, an assignment schedule and you submit assignments to your tutor to be marked. I can't recommend them enough, but I can see how it might not be a good fit if your d's needs more structure?

Sanaa76 · 18/07/2020 16:13

Hi Carrie,
Thanks once again. Wolsey hall is actually on my shortlist but with Ds's needs in mind Im leaning towards Interhigh due to the structure and live lessons.

Interhigh has a poor reputation amongst long term home educators. I'd advise joining Facebook groups where you'll hear many more voices than here.
Netschool gets good feedback.
MyOnlineSchooling mixed but more positive than negative.
There are also lots of providers specialising in particular areas so you don't have to stick to one provider you could pick and mix and shape it yourself.

We've tried myonlineschooling in lockdown, Y5 and Y10. It's ok. It has live lessons, online assessments and exams. I think it can work really well if a child is motivated. If not, it can be hard and a lot of work for the parent. Most teens don't have their camera turned on.
You pay monthly and can quit with a month's notice if you want to.
