Online schools for 5-7 year olds?

We’re considering home educating DS1 for the next couple of years.

I’m concerned about keeping up with the mainstream curriculum as we’d then be trying to enrol him in an academically selective school.

Is there anything like InterHigh but for ages 5-7? Or somewhere I could buy resources that would take us through everything he needs? I’d like a structured approach.

I don't know about an all in one website like Interhigh, but There are resources which I will link below.

the maths factor - daily maths lessons

mystery science - it is an american website, but since science isn't one of the tested subjects at 11 plus, this should be fine. Homeschooling membership is around £54 per year ($69 as listed on the website).

skills builder english textbook covers grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocab. You can use it alongside this book.

dinolingo offer german or french classes.

Have you tried joining homeschool facebook pages locally etc.

GeriGeranium · 08/06/2020 12:03

Thank you for those websites, I’ll check them out.

I haven’t joined any local Facebook pages yet, but that’s a good idea thank you.

Actual homeschoolers have tons of experience and resources (we didnt go down that route but investigated it.) I did read most gave up on schemes they heavily invested in early on so it is worth trying for fit and seeing what rhythm works for you. I was v excited about carol vordermans maths for example. But it was so slow and didnt let you advance if you grapsed a concept so didnt work for us!

Ah thank you. It’s quite overwhelming- I feel like I want somebody to just give me a curriculum to follow, but then I suppose we could get that in school! It’s just so hard to know what level he should be at/what I need to cover.

if your dc is in year 1 (or will be in year 1), I found this curriculum plan from a homeschooling mum. Will link it below x

I think all UK online schools start KS2. There will soon be a very large chuck of a year available on oak academy which you can use, as well as BBC bitesize. The beauty of not following a curriculum that's rigid is if you want him to get ahead you are able to speed through to later years in areas he's particularly strong in.
There is a lot of comparing done when you want your child to get into selectives, and this will especially be the case if youre responsible for the educating part.
There are really great American resources though as homeschool there is much more popular. Their online school starts much younger so you could look into that and supplement with UK CGP books closer to him returning to school. Don't underestimate how much learning he'd get done by doing projects. Enjoy maths is a great website with fun projects and maths games, compiled by a lovely grandma who homeschooled her grandkids. Oaka resources are great too.

In America, almost all states have their own online school that's free to students that live in them but you can pay to join. Theres often very expensive private schools that have an online option that lots use as it's more affordable.
There's really tons out there and it can get overwhelming so I would just make sure you stay grounded and remember what your ultimate goal is. There will always be someone that's doing more, or say they are.

HE Exams Wikia isn't working for me right now so won't link it but it has a list of online schools or correspondance courses. Briteschool, Net School, My Online School from memory possibly do primary. They will cover most subjects but you may find the timings awkward if your child isn't happy to sit and work at home as they do in school. It can also mean not being able to do HE classes during the day like sports, as your child has to be logged in.
