My son is 6 and misses so much of school because of health problems, he has uveitis ( inflammation of the eyes)
Getting tested for ibd and arthritis,
He seen a lot of different doctors and I can’t remember the last time he did a full week at school I think it was about November 2019,
I do a lot of work the days he’s of school and I would love to have him home with me and his younger sister but I’m so scared!! I don’t want to fail him xx

Poor lad, that sounds rough!

Home education can be a very good solution for kids who have long-term health conditions. Unlike at school, they don't miss anything and fall behind. You can just put things on hold whenever he can't manage it.

And it is far, far more efficient than school. You've probably noticed already how much your son can learn when he has one-to-one attention. That gets even better when you have the freedom to let him learn things he is interested in and which are at exactly the right level for him, rather than whatever the curriculum dictates. If he's fascinated by the Romans this year, you can let him throw himself into it. Or if he is desperate to earn some money, he can learn plenty of maths by coming up with moneymaking schemes like my eldest did.

Just think how much more he will learn and how much more fun you will have together if he is with you on his good days too, not just when he is too ill for school.

You won't fail him. It is easier than you think, especially with a young child.

My kids are home schooled due to a variety of factors, including health conditions. They love it and are not so tired. We do myonlineschooling, as well as lessons at home. TES worksheets, and youtube are my saviours. You can find books about all sorts on the internet, and your local library can help you find suitable resources too. Any long term medical condition requiring your assistance as a carer may qualify for Disability Living Allowance and Carers Allowance (subject to circumstances), and may help fund home school in some way.
