Hi. I am looking into home edding dd for further education. She hates school and has asked if she can home study for sixth form. Has anyone done this? I just worry about the social side of things. I assume most HE groups are full of younger children

I know a few people who do, my 16/17 yo did GCSE resits and some extras at home this year and I am starting to consider A'levels at home as option for 14yo.
You need to look at what is involved in the A'level - are there practicals, coursework, non-examined assessments for example? This page might be helpful www.he-exams.wikia.org/wiki/A-levels/ The Facebook linked to the wiki would be best place to ask questions.
Socially yes home ed groups would probably be too young, you would be looking at maintaining school friendships and other groups/clubs/volunteering etc

Our local area has a home ed teens Facebook group for parents, so they can set up activities and classes etc that don't get overrun with little ones

Dd (16) is doing online school for sixth form. I too worry about the social aspect but she was isolating herself at school so wasn’t getting any benefits of being around people but having to deal with all the stress of being at school. She has quite a few friends from riding and she’s down at the stables every day so gets some interaction from that at least. Does your dd have any interests out of school - sport, drama etc?

I totally forgot to reply. Thank you for your replies. She's doing three a levels via distance learning. She's going to do part time voluntary work and maybe get a paid job.

Can I ask which distance learning provider you have chosen and which ones you considered. I’m looking into A levels for my daughter.

Sebw · 17/08/2019 11:35

We're using national extension college as I did a course through them years ago and they were great back then.

Thank you. That’s who we were thinking of. I just wondered if we had missed anything. Good luck to your daughter.

Thanks. I like the way they organise exams for you as we have limited places in NE for private candidates. We enrolled her on an a level yesterday and the online materials look good.

Just wondering what A levels your dc are doing?

DD is doing Sociology, History, Politics and maybe Philosophy over three years.

Biology, chemistry and psychology

ELR · 25/08/2019 15:43

Hi I am in a similar position. DD has enrolled at 6th form but is refusing to go and wants to do online a levels. I am nervous to agree mainly due to her motivation and loss of social interaction. We can't exactly afford it either. Law, sociology and psychology would be her subjects.
How do you plan to ensure the work is completed and how would you structure the days?
Amy advice would be great.

Drabarni · 25/08/2019 15:48

Nothing to add, but good luck to all your dc. It shows there are alternatives to school.
Mine is happy at school, but have H.ed in the past, and would do again if needed. Thanks
